{"id":9764,"date":"2026-03-31T10:06:32","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T14:06:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/willing-rose-aardvark.208-79-218-100.cpanel.site\/?p=9764"},"modified":"2026-03-31T15:00:43","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T19:00:43","slug":"lhba-ohba-applauds-federal-and-provincial-governments-decision-to-remove-pst-from-new-home-purchases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/willing-rose-aardvark.208-79-218-100.cpanel.site\/?p=9764","title":{"rendered":"LHBA, OHBA applauds Federal and Provincial Government\u2019s decision to remove PST from new home purchases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>LONDON, ONTARIO<\/strong>, March 31, 2026 \u2013 The London Home Builders\u2019 Association (LHBA) and Ontario Home Builders\u2019 Association (OHBA) applaud the provincial government\u2019s announcement that they and the federal government will be removing the full amount of the harmonized sales tax on new homes under $1 million and a reduction of the HST for new homes between $1 million and $1.85 million, for all new home buyers, for the next year,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">where the<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new home must be used as a primary place of residence or as a residential rental property.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As currently defined within the regulations, substantially renovated new homes are treated as new housing for tax purposes and are included in this new policy measure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Local leaders from LHBA and OHBA have spent the past several months advocating for fairer tax conditions to spur new home construction and to save industry jobs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cRemoving the HST from new home purchases will trigger a surge in both new units being brought to market, increased sales from existing inventory that is otherwise sitting empty and skilled labourers remaining employed,\u201d says Board Chair, Adam Carapella.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cA strong residential construction and professional renovation industry supports jobs, economic growth, and communities across Ontario,\u201d said Executive Officer, Jared Zaifman.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scott Andison, CEO of OHBA, says \u201cI am happy to stand here today to say that the provincial and federal governments have listened to industry and taken our concerns with the existing market seriously, and taken decisive action to support home and community builders in Ontario.
